{Inspiration} Colours, patterns and themes

For those of you planning a wedding, choosing an original or unique colour scheme can be difficult, especially if you have never had a favourite colour in mind or even a theme to go from. I have worked with a few brides who have asked me, "Where do I begin?!"

While there is a truck load of wedding images available online, most I've noticed, seem to follow a trend of the same colour schemes that keep popping up and repeating over and over.

The best place to start, if you have no idea what you like is to find any image you are naturally drawn too or perhaps something that catches your eye. It doesn't have to be a wedding image at all, it can be a painting, a photo or a printed graphic.
I still remember the first picture I saved when I started thinking about a theme for my wedding, it was a bouquet of flowers sitting a top an old wooden chair with bright yellows, muted greens, creams and browns. Even though it changed a little the more I planned, it was a great starting point.

If you are still feeling lost, why not take a trip down to your local fabric store, there is always some great patterns with unique colour combinations. If you're not able to visit a brick and mortar store, jump online, there are plenty of sweet little online fabric stores, some with great vintage patterns and colours.

I know I keep rambling on about Pinterest but personally, it's my go to for inspiration. There are some great designs, artwork and patterns to be found and some great combinations that can be easily transposed into a colour scheme for an event.

Below are some gorgeous patterned images I found on Pinterest of textiles, paintings and even wallpaper, with beautiful rich vibrant colours, that could be easily incorporated into any themed event, modern or vintage. Click on an image to find it's source.

Happy colour scheme hunting!

Our lazy Sunday in Warburton. Think drizzly rain, wintery winds, antique shopping, walking by the river, eating cake and sipping hot lattes. The best.

{Inspiration} No time to sleep, I must pin some more!

Some of you may have noticed what a crazy last few months it has been for us here at All Propped Up, but for those of you who don't, on top of general business, I got married! I finally tied the knot with my lovely and very understanding Fiance in March, it took a lot of planning and ate a lot of my time which is why we were closed for a bit and things were a little out of sorts!

Now that the post wedding dust has settled and I look back to reflect, I can not think how much harder it would have been without the aid of my beloved Pinterest.
If you don't know what Pinterest is, it could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it, for me its clearly both. I'm the first to put my hand up and admit, I'm addicted. Most nights involve me asking myself, to sleep or to pin, that is the question?

The media describes it as:
"Pinterest is an online pinboard, a visual take on the social bookmarking site. Unlike other social bookmarking sites, such as Digg and StumbleUpon, content shared on Pinterest is driven entirely by visuals. In fact, you can’t share something on Pinterest unless an image is involved."

I describe it as: A wonderfully happy place where I can escape to my dream home, add to my ever growing home DIY list, find the lastest and greatest trends, colours and themes for weddings, events and parties, discover deliciously tasty recipes to cook my hubby, see what the latest exercise routine is, check out shirtless pics of Chris Hemsworth (!), read inspiring quotes of yesteryear and today, and find out what natural products will make my hair shine and my skin glow.
I mean really, what more could a gal want right?

If you don't know where to start, feel free to start following us here, I spend a lot of time on Pinterest, you may as well benefit from my many sleepless hours of pinning, someone ought to!
I highly recommend you jumping on the pinning bandwagon if you are getting married in the near future, Pinterest is truely an amazing source of inspiration, especially if you have no idea where to start!
Happy Pinning! x

Well another year over and another one about to begin! It's only taken me 5 months to write a blog post, not a bad effort ey?
What a year we have had at All Propped Up - Weddings, Baby showers, 1st birthdays and so much more!
I am so thankful for all of your support and really appreciate all the love we have had in 2012!

This year I have also been planning my own wedding which has added to the chaos and on that note I would like to thank my Fiance, I could not have done all this with out you, you are the bestest and I love you to pieces!

So, what are your plans for the festive season? We are traveling between families on Chrissy day but hope to be resting at night with our feet up - and some sort of festive drink in my hand would be nice!

Some important news: we will be closed from 21/12/12 - 7/1/13. Please feel free to still email but you won't get a response until after the 7th January.

Wishing you and your families a very safe and happy Christmas and New Years!
Thanks again!

{Event of the Week} Vintage themed ideas

For those of you not familiar with the T.V show Mad Men, get on it now, you're missing out! For those that are, how cute is this themed Sterling Cooper cocktail party? I can't believe how much detail was put into this night, amazing!

Loved this idea of re-creating props from the show. This bulletin board was featured in the episode Peggy was trying to find a room mate, her notice read: “Fun-loving girl, responsible sometimes. Likes to laugh, lives to love seeks size six for city living and general gallivanting. No dull moments or dull men tolerated.”

Candy cigarettes, the perfect prop for a Mad Men party!

Fun, original game that relates back to the shows theme : advertising.

What a great idea for a hen's day or cocktail night. To encourage others to dress up why not offer a best dressed prize? Other good ideas with a vintage theme:

Vintage inspired morning/ afternoon tea. Games could include tea taste testing and then guessing from a list of teas which one you think it is or a vintage fashion best dressed - or best hat?!

Vintage inspired BBQ / Picnic at home. Games could include Ring toss, croquet, or Bocce. I'm imagining vintage picnic baskets and esky's filled with ice and mini cold glass bottle cokes!

...and lastly if you love to cook, why not host a dinner the way it used to be done? Invite friends to bring a dish if that makes it easier. If your friends are foodies too, why not give them an old fashioned recipe to make and you can discuss how it all went over a glass of wine on the night! Charades was also a popular game back in the day at dinner party's.  Think formal / Black tie vintage style!
